I’m really terrible at blogging. I’m going to attempt to keep this updated. I got a new camera, so I’ve got some motivation for now.

Ev bought me a Canon 6D for our wedding anniversary. It will probably be the last anniversary present for a while (because it was expensive). I had the original 5D (which I still own). This was a nice upgrade. I didn’t really need this fancy of a camera, but once you go full frame, you can’t go back to a crop sensor. I probably won’t be doing anything professional or semi-professional with photography anytime soon. Unless someone wants me to take photos for them. I will mostly be taking photos of the kids and anything else I feel like for the time being. I’d like to do some street photography, but there aren’t many people in this area that do street photography and I would wind up sticking out like a sore thumb. But we will see. Maybe I will gather up the courage to do it anyway.

Here are a couple of photos I took the first day with the 6D. The first one is Elysia at the park. With the 5D reds and bright pinks always looked fake, almost cartoonish. With the 6D they look really nice. I know the 5D is a 12 year old camera and it still takes some amazing photos, but it was nice to upgrade. The second photo is Dylan at our friend’s house sitting by a fire. The ISO was set at 6400 and the photo looks really good still. My focus was a bit off, but that was more my fault than the camera’s. The 6D also takes video, which the 5D doesn’t offer.

Last Monday, after the family shoot, Ev and I took a walk at sunset. It was a little chilly due to the wind, but it wasn’t too bad. I took a few photos and we walked around the Levee a bit.

I used my new Lensbaby Spark to take these photos. It’s only $80 and a great way to get a lensbaby for cheap. The aperture is fixed at 5.6, which limits its low light capabilities. It is still a pretty fun add-on.

First photos with the 5D

I’ve been wanting to upgrade my camera for a while now. I had originally planned on getting a Canon 60D. I read a lot of reviews on the 60D and it seemed like a good fit for me. Yes, it was another APS-C format camera and I really wanted a full frame camera, but I didn’t have the money. Then I did a little more research and learned that I could get an original 5D for less than the 60D. The 5D is full frame, but it is only 13.2 MP. I’ve never really cared about the megapixels in cameras. I had a Canon powershot with 3.2MP that took better pictures than some 7MP cameras. It definitely took better pictures than any current cell phone camera. I decided to buy the 5D because I knew I would be happier with an older full frame camera, than another crop sensor. I found a used 5D for $560 on KEH.com. The camera is in good shape, it has a few dings, but that was expected. I’ve been using it for nearly 1 week now and I love it more than I ever expected. I still have my 1000D for backup and I still love that camera. I am at a point where I am done spending large amounts of money on equipment. I need to get a good flash, but I have most of the lenses I need. Image
